Most seeds can be stored for one or two years and still produce great results in your garden. The key is to store them properly. But seed storage only has a few basic requirements.

Here are the top five tips from Seed Savers Exchange Field Manager, Bryan Stuart on what to focus on during the busy month of September, no matter where you live.

While most eyes were on who was taking gold, silver, and bronze in Rio this summer, tomato fans eagerly awaited the outcome of a different kind of competition: the Seed Savers Exchange Tomato Tasting.

Part of preserving seeds is documenting and preserving the unique genetic map contained within each variety. But along with these seeds come a history.  Both important, both worthy of documentation.

The seed vault that houses our collection is in jeopardy. Thankfully, a solution is at hand, but we need your help.

“The right tomato can move you to tears,” stated author and tomato enthusiast Craig LeHoullier at our 2015 Conference & Campout. The North Carolina man, who has tested thousands of tomatoes in his driveway over his 30 years of seed saving, spoke about his passion for heirloom tomatoes describing them as “the gateway drug to the gardening world”.

Orral, 94, and Joan Craig, 91, now of Fort Myers, Florida, have been members of Seed Savers Exchange for over 30 years, as well as donors of a good number of flower and vegetable varieties to SSE’s Preservation Collection.

Our Benefit Concert featuring Mason Jennings and The Pines is the perfect chance to bid farewell to summer, while enjoying the outdoors, music, and great company. All proceeds from the August 27 concert will go to support the mission of Seed Savers Exchange, including a special project, which will be announced at the concert.
